Ja koska Bangkokissa on taas mielenosoituksia, teitä suljettu ja pommiuhkia ja mulla sopivasti lomaa, karkasin pitkää viikonloppua viettämään Ko Changille.

Finally it’s over! All essays and projects are done, just one presentation and exams to go. Even the exams can’t stress me anymore when all the reports are done. This semester has probably been the most horrible ever during my time in university. And when you think that I usually do at least six classes per semester and this semester I only did 5, the amount of work we had was insane. If I ever made anyone think it’s easy and chill here I take that back now.

And because there is protests in Bangkok again, roads are blocked, bomb threats and I have little holiday, I ran off to Ko Chang for a long weekend.

Koska ei ole hyvää ilman huonoa, niin meikä on taas kipee. Keskesinhän olla jo ainakin kaksi viikkoa terveenä. Tällä kertaa todennäköisesti keuhkokuume tai joku vastaava. Muuten siis ollut mukava loma, mutta kun puolet päivästä yksii niin, että keuhko on tulessa, eikä maillahalmeilla ole apteekkia niin rupee vähän ahdistaa. Huomenna siis takasin Bangkokiin ja sairaalaan keuhkokuviin, jännää.

And there is never good without some bad too. I’m sick again. Well I was fine almost two weeks already. This time I most likely have some lung infection or something. Otherwise I’ve had nice holiday, but when you half of the days cough so much you feel like your lungs are in fire and there is no pharmacy around, you start to get annoyed. So tomorrow back to Bangkok and visit some hospital for a lung check up, exciting.

Jugurttia, marjoja ja mysliä, ruisleipä avocadolla, pari kananmunaa ja mangoteetä uudesta teekannusta. Näillä eväillä alkaa hyvä päivä, etenkin hyvä perjantai vapaapäivä! Oon kipee jo viidettä päivää ja kouluprojektitkaan ei ota loppuakseen, mutta nyt alkaa olemaan jo kaikesta huolimatta positiivisempi fiilis. Kaikki projektit on kuitenkin suht loppusuoralla (myös tää kuumeflunssa mikälie) ja voi alkaa ottaa rennommin. Ehkä sitä pääsis jopa reissuun jonnekin ensiviikolla, kun viime- ja tämänviikon rantalomat ei onnistunut.

Nyt siirryn takas jatkamaan tän aamiaisen parissa ja kattelemaan ikkunasta ihanaa aurinonpaistetta. Ulkona on +38, mutta edes se tuskainen kuumuus ei haittaa, nyt alkoi viikonloppu.

Yoghurt, berries and muesli, rue bread with avocado, two boiled eggs and mango tea from my new teapot. With this set you start a good day, especially good off-duty friday! I’m sick now for fifth day already and school projects don’t seem to end either, but nevertheless I’m starting to feel more positive. All the school projects will end soon (hopefully this flu fever whatever too) and I can start to relax more. Maybe I could even go and have a small holiday somewhere since my last and this weeks beach trips had to be cancelled.

Now I get back to my breakfast and look from the window the amazing sunshine. It’s +38 degrees outside, but even the unbearable heat doesn’t matter, now started my weekend!

I have so many exciting things to tell you that I don’t even know from where to start! Let’s start with that I’m back in Bangkok, at home, in the middle of a little craziness. (how come everything I left here is just half done? like my homework that dues today, oops) So I was a little over a week in Finland and it was weird. I maybe haven’t gone through all my feelings from that trip yet, but I have to say I probably wouldn’t adapt to life in Finland anymore. At least not easily nor willingly. It was nice to visit home, see my family and meet my friends, but I’m too much of a traveller and a beachbum so I better just stick somewhere close to the equator.

 Niin ja ei tää kiire täällä ole pelkästään näitä koulujuttuja (okei 99% on koulujuttuja, shit), mutta täällä on myös paikkailut meneillään. Ei, en ole taas lähössä reissuun (tänää illalla changille, eihän lasketa?), vaan me ollaan Fluken kanssa muuttamassa pois meidän talosta. Tähän väliin tulee itkukohtaus, tää talo on vaan ollut ihan paras paikka asua. Vaikka joudunkin luopumaan meidän isosta teollisuuskeittiöstä, majasta rappusten alla ja ”puutarhasta”, jotain hyvää tässä kuitenkin on. Muutan nimittäin aika tasan 36 päivän päästä Balille! Kyllä, mun pitkäaikaisin haave ikinä asua minuutin matkan päästä rannasta ja surffista on toteutumassa. Tosin asun Balilla vaan kolme kuukautta tehden siellä työharjoittelua ja sitten takas Bangkokiin, mutta hei, se on silti ihan mahtavaa! Oon myös aivan järkyttävän innoissani (kauhuissani), että pääsen näkemään joka päivä Meriä!

And the hassle here is not only about my homework that is about to due (okay 99% homework, shit) but we are also packing here. No, I’m not going to travel anywhere (tonight to ko chang, doesn’t count right?), but me and Fluke are moving out from our house. In between here will be crying scene, this house has just been the best place to live. Even though I have to give up our huge kitchen, hut under the stairs and my ”garden” there is something good in this too. Because in about 36 days I’m moving to Bali! Yes, one of my biggest dreams of living a minute away from the beach and surfing is coming true. Though I will only be there three months doing my internship and then coming back to Bangkok, it’s still awesome! I’m also pretty damn excited (terrified) that I can see Meri everyday!

Okay, now the homework, yak

Viimenen paikka missä käytiin Chiang rain reissulla oli Baan Dam eli musta talo. En oikeen tiedä miten tätä paikkaa kuvailisi. Se oli tosi synkkä ja ehkä vähän pelottava, mutta myös äärimmäisen kiinnostava. Tää paikka on artisti Thawan Dunchaneen rakennuttama ja sisältää 15 eri taloa jotka on kaikki täynnä eri eläinten luurankoja, kalloja ja nahkoja. Kuitenkaan eläimiä ei ole tapettu tätä varten vaan jäännökset on kerätty luonnollisesti kuolleilta eläimiltä. Täällä oli vähän semmoinen paholaisen palvonta fiilis, vaikka lukemani mukaan paikan takana ei ole mitään uskonnollisia ajatuksia tai kytköksiä. Todella mielenkiintoinen vastakohta Wat Rong Khunille !

The last place we visited during our trip to Chiang Rai was Baan Dam (Black house). I’m not sure how to really describe this place. It was very dark and even a little scary at the times but also extremely interesting. This place is build by artist Thawan Dunchanee and has 15 different houses filled with skeletons, skulls and skins of different animals. Apparently non of the animals were killed for this but they died a natural death. This place had a feeling like it would be done for worshiping the devil, but I read afterwards that there is no religious connections. It was extremely interesting contrary to Wat Rong Khun.

Because of one university project I have, I had to do a research about different ”creative tourism” places and found this tea farm. You can book a night or two at this tea farm and learn how to grow tea bushes, how to pick the tea leaves and how does it end up to tea bags on your breakfast table.

Tota peltoa ja kukkulaa oli joka suuntaan silmänkantamattomiin ja siellä ne kerää käsin teelehtiä tommoseen pussukkaan (lämpötila kevyet +38).

They had miles and miles of those fields of tea and there the pickers were picking the tea leaves by hand to those bags they carry on their backs (and it was +38 degrees).

Olisin halunnunt ottaa tosi paljon enemmän kuvia näistä long neck hilltriben naisista, mutta en vaan kehdannut. Ne istui majojensa edessä myymässä millon mitäkin ja turistit kulki jonossa ihmetellen niitä kuin sirkuseläimiä. En myöskään tykännyt ajatuksesta, että mun pitää maksaa heille, että saan yhteiskuvan. Kaikki siis joutuu jo portilla maksamaan sisäänpääsyn (7,5e paikalliset / 10e turistit). Ja vaikka nää tyypit oli niin mielenkiintoisen näkösiä, oli tää koko paikka rakennettu turisteja ja rahastusta varten ja jäi vähän huono maku siitä. Olisin mielelläni ostanut käsin tehtyjä koruja, jos en olisi joutunut antamaan kaikkia rahoja jo sisäänpääsymaksuun.

I wanted to take so many pictures of these long neck hill tribe women, but I just felt too shy. They were sitting in front of their cottages selling all different things and tourist walked in line and stared at them like circus animals. I also didn’t like the idea I would have to pay to get a photo with one of them. Everyone already has to pay entrance fee (locals 300b / tourists 400b). And even tho these people were super interesting looking, was this whole place build for tourists and to make money. I would have wanted to buy some hand made jewellery and support them, but after that expensive entrance (in Thailand 400b equals 10 meals) I really could not afford anything.

Heitettiin rahaa ja toivottiin hiljaa mielessä kivoja juttuja, vaikka ei tohon keskellä olevaan juttuun osuttukaan.

We threw in coins and wished nice things to happen, even tho we couldn’t hit the thing in the middle.

Koko puu oli rakennettu noista metalli läpysköistä. Aina kun käy täällä tekemässä meriitin munkille saa tommosen läpyskän ja siihen voi kirjoittaa oman nimensä tai kirjoittaa toivomuksia. Monet lapset oli piirtänyt myös kuvia niihin.

The whole tree was build out of those metal ornaments. Every time you go make a merit to a monk you get one of those ornaments and you can write your name or a wish on it. Many kids also drew pictures on them.

Tässä rakennuksessa järjestetään buddhalaiset hautajaiset ja poltetaan ruumit. Tosta vikasta kuvasta ehkä saa eniten selvää miten noi temppelit on rakennettu pienistä peilin palasista ja sen takia kimaltelee.

In this building they held buddhist funerals and burn the bodies. From the last picture you can maybe get an idea how the temples were build out of small pieces of mirror and thats what made them look so shiny.

Before I tell you anything about the whole trip to Chiang Rai, I need to start with our hotel. We stayed in a four star hotel called Le Méridien fairly close to the city centre. I could just post a list of praise words down here but I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

(Ottakaa huomioon, että jollekin tämä saattaa olla tavallisen oloinen hotelli, joissa aina reissut viettää, mutta mulle joka yleensä majailee 2€/yö bambubungaloweissa tämä paikka oli aivan super luxus)

(To someone this might be like their average hotel where they always stay when travelling, but to me who mostly stays in 2€/night bamboo bungalows this was something super luxurious)

Mitä mulle muuten kuuluu? No niitä kouluprojekteja. Ja paljon. Tuntuu, että niitä tulee joka viikko lisää ja alan pikku hiljaa hukkumaan tähän papereiden ja tiedostojen määrään. Etten ihan homehtuisi ja masentuisi kotona olen säännöllisesti buukannut itelleni lentoja eri paikkoihin. Tiedän tiedän, just tulin Balilta ja Kuala Lumpurista, mutta minkäs travel junkie itselleen mahtaa.

Seuraava reissu on siis jo ensi viikolla perjantaista sunnuntaihin ja suuntana on Thaimaan Chiang Rai! En ole ikinä siellä käynyt, saatiin pari ilmaista hotelliyötä ja hemmetin halvat lennot (50 euroa edes takas per henkilö), ei siis vaan voinut kieltäytyä tarjouksesta. Eli ei kun nokka kohti pohjoista!

Kerta aloitin nyt tämän pohjoiseen päin matkustamisen, niin buukasin siinä sitten samalla lennot Suomeen! En tiedä mikä koti-ikävä (tai siis karjalanpiirakka ikävä) muhun iski, mutta kotiin ollaan nyt sitten myös tulossa. Onneksi sentään meno-paluulla, ettei äiti vaan yritä kidnapata mua sinne pysyvästi :-D Suomessa siis 4.-13. huhtikuuta.

Koska pyörin paljon netissä lentoja vertailemassa ajattelin vinkata teille ebookersin sivuista. En epäile, etteikö kukaan olisi jo ebookersin sivuista kuullut, mutta moni on varmasti siirtynyt käyttämään muita uudempia hakusivuja.
